# Page experience and Core Web Vitals

> Core Web Vitals are among the signals Google's ranking systems use, but there is no single page experience signal. Good thresholds are LCP within 2.5 s, INP under 200 ms and CLS under 0.1. Good scores don't guarantee top rankings, and relevance can outweigh a sub-par page experience.

## Is page experience a ranking signal?

> **Officially documented:**
> "There is no single signal. Our core ranking systems look at a variety of signals that align with overall page experience." Of the aspects of page experience, Google says Core Web Vitals are used by its ranking systems.

## Core Web Vitals thresholds

> **Officially documented:**
> For a good user experience, Google recommends:
>
> - **Largest Contentful Paint (LCP)** — loading: within the first 2.5 seconds.
> - **Interaction to Next Paint (INP)** — responsiveness: less than 200 milliseconds.
> - **Cumulative Layout Shift (CLS)** — visual stability: less than 0.1.

## How much it matters

> **Officially documented:**
> Good results in Search Console's Core Web Vitals report or third-party tools do not guarantee top rankings. Google adds that "trying to get a perfect score just for SEO reasons may not be the best use of your time." It always tries to show the most relevant content, even if the page experience is sub-par. Where many pages are equally helpful, a great page experience can contribute to success.

## Practical reading

- Treat the thresholds as a floor for users, not a ranking lever to max out.
- Measure with field data (real users) where possible; lab scores are a diagnostic.
- Server-rendered HTML ([JavaScript rendering and AI crawlers](https://geo.casa/implementation/javascript-rendering-ai-crawlers/)) usually helps LCP as well as crawler access.
